Supercell's upcoming multiplayer game, Mo.co, has already made a significant impact even before its official release. The game has generated over $2.5 million in revenue since its soft launch, according to recent estimates reported by Pocketgamer.biz.
For those unfamiliar with Mo.co, it blends the social gaming experience popular among millennials with elements reminiscent of Monster Hunter. Players take on the role of a stylish part-time hunter, tasked with taking down various evil invaders through contracts.
The initial revenue surge can be attributed to the game's appealing array of cosmetics and other in-game items. However, the revenue spike didn't last long, possibly due to the limited content available during the invite-only soft launch phase. This dip in revenue doesn't necessarily spell doom for Mo.co. It might simply indicate that the game needs more content to maintain player interest and spending.
Superstitious cellWhy does this matter? Supercell has a reputation for being ruthlessly selective with their game releases. Instead of spreading their team's efforts across multiple projects, they focus solely on the most promising titles. This strategy has led to successful launches like Brawl Stars and Squad Busters, which initially started slow but quickly gained traction. On the flip side, promising games like Flood Rush and Everdale were canceled before launch.
The question now is whether Mo.co will follow a similar path. Given its early success, Supercell might experiment with new content to see if it can reignite player spending. If successful, Mo.co could soon see a full release on various storefronts.
