DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting in May 2025, marking the return of a prominent Marvel writer to the DC universe.
Superman Unlimited is penned by Dan Slott, renowned for his contributions to Marvel’s The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four. Having previously worked on DC titles like Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, Slott has been exclusive to Marvel for the last 20 years. That changes with Superman Unlimited.
The series teams Slott with American Vampire artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
“He’s the original and ultimate superhero, and I’ve been eager my entire career to craft his stories,” Slott said in a statement. “It’s not just his incredible powers, but his core essence that drives this. Rafael Albuquerque and I will take him—and readers—on thrilling monthly escapes. We’re bringing fresh ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic villains, and new allies and enemies. Whether you’re new to comics or a lifelong Superman fan, Superman Unlimited #1 is the perfect jump-in point.”
Superman Unlimited introduces a perilous new reality for the Man of Steel. A Kryptonite asteroid blankets Earth in Green K, empowering foes like Intergang with weapons exploiting his greatest vulnerability. This forces Superman to develop new technology and strategies to combat an unprecedented threat. Meanwhile, Clark Kent navigates a revamped Daily Planet, now merged with Morgan Edge’s Galaxy Communications, transforming into a global media powerhouse.
“Superman Unlimited builds on DC’s Superman legacy, much like Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness’s Superman/Batman in the early 2000s,” said DC group editor Paul Kaminski. “It delivers the bold, exhilarating adventures Superman is famous for, while introducing a massive Kryptonite surge that shakes up DC’s Superman titles. Picture a world where every criminal wields Kryptonite-powered weapons. This is a new level of danger for Superman and his allies.”
“We recently launched Justice League Unlimited, where Mark Waid and Dan Mora explore a saga of boundless heroes,” Kaminski added. “In contrast, Slott and Albuquerque’s Superman Unlimited dives into a world of supercharged villains fueled by Kryptonite. Green K is everywhere, and Superman must adapt to survive. Dan’s pitch is full of surprises, and Rafael’s art is breathtaking. 2025 will be a defining year for Superman.”
Slott and Albuquerque’s run begins with a 10-page prelude in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, out May 3, 2025. Superman Unlimited #1 follows on May 21, just before James Gunn’s Superman film hits theaters on July 11.
