The Google Streamer 4K is now available at a discounted price for the first time. You can grab it for just $79.99 on Amazon and other retailers. This Android-based 4K streaming device stands out as one of the top options, offering modern features like smart hub capabilities and Thread compatibility at a more budget-friendly price than competitors like Apple TV, Roku Ultra, and Nvidia Shield TV Pro.

Launched in September 2024, the Google Streamer 4K succeeds the Chromecast 4K with significant upgrades. Google states the new processor is 22% faster, paired with 2GB of memory (double the previous model) and 32GB of storage (four times as much). It supports high-speed 802.11ac Wi-Fi and gigabit Ethernet. Powered by a USB Type-C port, it simplifies finding a replacement power adapter, and a redesigned remote includes a convenient remote-finder button on the device itself.

Matching premium competitors, the Google Streamer 4K delivers 4K HDR streaming, supporting Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+ formats. While equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port, it’s capped at 4K @ 60fps. Pair it with Dolby Atmos-compatible speakers, like the Sonos Arc, for immersive spatial audio. It also doubles as a smart home hub, supporting Thread border routing and Matter compatibility.

Compared to Apple TV or Roku Ultra, the Google Streamer 4K offers similar performance at a lower cost. While the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is cheaper, Android TV provides a cleaner, ad-free interface. The Nvidia Shield TV Pro outperforms in streaming but costs $200. With smart home features and Thread/Matter support, the Google Streamer 4K is an exceptional value.
