"Witcher 4 Production Struggles with Unreal Engine"

Daniel Vavra, the visionary behind the Kingdom Come trilogy and a co-founder of Warhorse Studios, has openly criticized Unreal Engine, claiming it struggles with the demands of creating a detailed and expansive open world. According to Vavra, this limitation was a significant factor in the troubled development of The Witcher 4.

"Unreal Engine is suitable if you're aiming to craft environments filled with deserts and rocks, but it has historically struggled with rendering trees effectively," Vavra stated. He further criticized Unreal's Nanite technology, asserting that it falls short in generating realistic vegetation.

Vavra revealed that a CD Projekt employee confided in him about the prolonged struggles the studio faced with scenes that had previously run smoothly on their proprietary RED Engine. This switch to Unreal Engine, according to Vavra, has contributed to what he describes as "production hell" for the game.

He emphasized that most studios developing open-world games opt for custom engines, expressing confusion over CD Projekt's decision to abandon their well-regarded RED Engine in favor of Unreal. Vavra also pointed out that while Unreal Engine can deliver stunning graphics, it demands hardware that costs thousands of euros, which is beyond the reach of many gamers.

Turning to his own projects, Vavra noted that the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, set in medieval Bohemia, continues to captivate fans years after its release. The much-anticipated sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, is set to continue the adventures of Indřich with enhanced graphics, a refined combat system, and a narrative deeply rooted in historical events. The game is slated for release on February 4.

In this article, we've gathered the latest information on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, including system requirements and estimated completion times. We'll also provide instructions on how to download the game as soon as it becomes available, ensuring you can dive into the medieval world without delay.
