The Bloodborne PSX demake, a fan-made project, has recently been targeted by a copyright claim, following the footsteps of the Bloodborne 60fps mod which faced a similar issue last week. Lance McDonald, the creator of the 60fps mod, revealed that he received a takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment, prompting him to remove the patch from the internet. This action came four years after the mod's initial release.

Lilith Walther, the mind behind Nightmare Kart (formerly Bloodborne Kart) and the Bloodborne PSX demake, reported that a YouTube video showcasing the demake was hit with a copyright claim by MarkScan Enforcement. McDonald confirmed that MarkScan is a company employed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the same entity that issued the DMCA takedown for his 60fps patch.

This series of events has sparked confusion and speculation within the gaming community, especially given Bloodborne's status as a beloved yet untouched title by Sony since its acclaimed launch on the PS4. Fans have been clamoring for an official next-gen patch to boost the game's frame rate from 30fps to 60fps, alongside calls for a remaster or sequel.

Recent advancements in PS4 emulation technology, highlighted by Digital Foundry's coverage of ShadPS4, have allowed fans to experience Bloodborne at 60fps on PC, raising questions about whether this could have provoked Sony's aggressive copyright enforcement.

In response to these developments, McDonald proposed a "copium theory" suggesting that Sony might be preparing to announce an official 60fps remake, potentially necessitating the removal of fan projects to avoid conflicts in search results and trademark issues.

Despite these actions, Sony has not indicated any plans to revisit Bloodborne. Shuhei Yoshida, a former PlayStation executive, shared his theory in an interview with Kinda Funny Games, suggesting that FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki might be protective of the game, unwilling to let anyone else handle it due to his busy schedule and success with other projects.

As it stands, Bloodborne remains dormant nearly a decade after its debut, with fans holding onto hope for future developments. Miyazaki has acknowledged the potential benefits of bringing the game to more modern hardware, though he often deflects direct questions about the game's future, citing FromSoftware's lack of ownership over the IP.
