Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player concerns following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates focusing on community feedback gathered during the advanced access period.
Initial player and press reviews were mixed, primarily citing issues with the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback, he expressed confidence in the game's long-term appeal to the established Civilization fanbase.
This patch tackles a range of problems, including:
Gameplay Improvements:
- Corrected the duration of Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- City-States now transition into Friendly Independent Powers instead of vanishing during Age transitions, starting with more units in later Ages.
- Improved naval combat consistency, addressing issues with combat strength, reciprocal damage, and unit movement after battles.
- Prevented Legacy Path completion from granting unintended Age Progress in the Modern Age.
- Towns now automatically revert to growth focus when conditions are met.
- The Future Civic is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for repeated selections.
- Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
- Enhanced rail network reliability for settlements connected via ports.
- Adjusted Loyalty Crisis mechanics in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas.
AI Enhancements:
- Reduced AI frequency of offering high-value cities in peace deals.
- Decreased AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
- Increased AI consideration of ideology before initiating war or peace negotiations.
- Modified AI war and peace inclinations based on ideological alignment.
Camera Fix:
- Resolved a camera focusing issue on native resolutions when using the minimap.
UI Updates:
- Temporarily replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
- Fixed issues with the Settlement menu, yield icons, and text cut-off on various screens.
- Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
- Corrected issues with city project purchasing, religion display, district health bars, leader portraits, and Age Summary alignment.
- Improved background color customization and spacing on loading screens.
Cross-play Note: Cross-play multiplayer has been temporarily disabled to expedite PC updates. This will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.
