Hideo Kojima's highly anticipated project, Physint, which serves as a spiritual successor to his iconic Metal Gear series, is still a considerable distance from its release. According to Kojima's recent interview with Le Film Francais, fans will need to wait "another five or six years" before they can experience this new "action espionage" game. This timeline places the release potentially in the late 2020s to early 2030s.

Kojima's departure from Konami in 2015 marked a significant shift in his career, leading him to establish his independent studio. Since then, he has been inundated with offers to develop new games. However, his focus remains on completing Death Stranding 2 and Physint before considering any other ventures, including his long-held dream of directing a movie. "I grew up with cinema. Directing would be, in a way, a tribute to it. Also, I'm getting older, and I'd prefer to do it while I'm still young!" he shared.

Physint was first announced by PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst in January 2024. Initially, Kojima hinted that the project would blend elements of both gaming and cinema, later clarifying on X/Twitter that it would represent the next level of 'Digital Entertainment,' akin to a movie in its approach to storytelling and production values.

In addition to Physint, Kojima Productions is actively working on several other projects. Death Stranding 2 is slated for release on June 26, and OD, a new IP in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, features actress Hunter Schafer and filmmaker Jordan Peele. Kojima is also involved in A24's film adaptation of the original Death Stranding, with actor Norman Reedus hinting that he would reprise his role in the upcoming movie.

Kojima's creative vision extends beyond current projects. He recently shared insights into discarded game ideas and even proposed a 'Forgetting Game,' where the protagonist's abilities and memories degrade if the player takes extended breaks. Additionally, he revealed that he has left a USB stick with game ideas for his staff to explore after his passing, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire future projects.
