Big changes are coming to Nightingale, the open-world crafting survival game from former Mass Effect developers. Read on to discover more about Nightingale and Inflexion Games' plans for the game's future.
"We're not satisfied with the game's current state, the overall player sentiment, or our player numbers," Flynn stated. While the team has focused on quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes since launch—including the highly requested offline mode—they now aim to better realize their original vision.
Nightingale, an open-world survival crafting game set in the mysterious Fae Realms, has been criticized for its open-ended nature. According to Thomson, the game is "almost too open world, too self-motivated in terms of goal-setting." To address this, Inflexion Games plans to introduce more structure, including clearer progression indicators, defined goals, and improved realm designs to combat the feeling of repetition.
"We love the game, but we see significant room for improvement," Flynn explained. "We want to bring more structure to the experience, providing a stronger sense of player progression and clearer understanding of gameplay options and the differences between realms." The team is also re-evaluating core game mechanics and considering adjustments. The update will also include increased build limits for larger structures. Previews of this new content are expected in the coming weeks.
Despite currently holding "Mixed" reviews on Steam, Nightingale is seeing a gradual increase in positive reviews, with approximately 68% of recent reviews being positive. Flynn and Thomson expressed gratitude for the community's support and encouraged continued feedback. "We recently played the updated version, and while more work is needed, we believe it's a significant improvement," Flynn concluded. "Ultimately, you'll be the judge when the update launches."
