Supercell's Squad Busters: A Solid Start, But Falling Short of Expectations

Supercell's latest mobile game, Squad Busters, a MOBA RTS hybrid, has achieved 40 million installs and $24 million in net revenue within its first month. Its popularity is particularly strong in the US, followed by Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea.

Despite these impressive figures, there are concerning trends. Spending has decreased since launch, and the $24 million revenue pales in comparison to Brawl Stars' $43 million and Clash Royale's over $115 million in their respective first months. Even more alarming is the decline in installs, dropping from 30 million in the first week to under five million by the end of the month.

Supercell Fatigue?

The diminishing returns for Squad Busters, a game Supercell clearly invested heavily in, raise questions. Competitor Honkai Star Rail, for instance, generated $190 million in its first month, significantly outperforming Squad Busters.

While Squad Busters is a well-made game, its similarity to Supercell's existing titles might indicate player fatigue. Only time will tell if Squad Busters can overcome this hurdle. Its long-term performance will be crucial in determining whether this is a temporary setback or a sign of broader challenges for Supercell.
