Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs – a revolutionary player feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping upcoming Battlefield installments. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative marks a significant shift towards collaborative game development.
Direct Player Influence on Battlefield's Future
Recognizing the crucial development phase ahead, Battlefield Studios is seeking unprecedented community input. Selected players will serve as integral testers, providing invaluable feedback on new features and mechanics.
Initially, players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate. While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, interested individuals can register their interest via [link removed - replace with actual link if available].
"This game has immense potential, and with us being in pre-alpha, now's the perfect time to test the experiences our teams have been developing," stated Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization. "Battlefield Labs empowers us to achieve this."
While participation is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures that regular updates will keep the broader community informed of progress and findings. Furthermore, plans are in place to extend this collaborative approach to future Battlefield titles.
The Battlefield Studios team comprises DICE (creators of the Battlefield franchise), Ripple Effect (developing a new experience), Motive (developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space), and Criterion (renowned for racing games and contributions to various Battlefield titles).
Testing Core Gameplay Elements in Battlefield Labs
Battlefield Labs will focus on iterative testing of key game elements. The process will begin with core combat and destruction mechanics, progressing to weapon, vehicle, and gadget balancing. Finally, the focus will shift to map design, game modes, and squad dynamics. The well-established Conquest and Breakthrough modes will also be included, providing opportunities to refine existing gameplay.
Conquest, a large-scale battle mode, centers around capturing control points (flags). Teams compete with a limited number of tickets, losing tickets upon respawn or when the enemy controls more flags. Breakthrough pits attackers against defenders, with attackers needing to capture sectors while defenders try to repel them. A similar ticket system applies, but attackers regain tickets by securing sectors.
Refinement of the class system is another key area of focus. While proud of their progress, Battlefield Studios values player feedback as crucial to achieving the optimal balance of form, function, and feel.
