DC Studios co-head and Superman director James Gunn hints at ambitious plans for Warner Bros. Games, though fans will need to remain patient as these projects develop.

During a conversation with GamesRadar+, the comics veteran outlined his strategy for broadening the DC Universe. As Gunn, co-CEO Peter Safran, and the wider DC Studios team map out a new future for DCU films and series, the Superman filmmaker confirmed that video games are very much part of the roadmap.

“We’re seeing a little progress on various fronts,” Gunn shared. “A couple of smaller DC titles are on the way, and we’re also exploring—and in early talks for—some larger-scale games. One project, in particular, has me excited, but these things take time. With recent shifts within Warner Bros. Games, we’re now coordinating with new leadership.”

These organizational changes have unfolded over the past year, with WB Games now concentrating on four core franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones. This strategic pivot follows significant losses from Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, along with the disappointing performance and eventual discontinuation of MultiVersus. WB Games executive David Haddad also departed the company in January.

The publisher also canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and closed Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego in February. While WB Games has a strong track record with comic-inspired hits like the Injustice and Batman: Arkham series, the DC gaming division still has ground to recover.

“We’re seeing a little progress on various fronts.”

While Gunn confirms plans are moving ahead at WB Games, he didn’t specify what kind of DC experiences players can anticipate. However, GamesRadar+ notes that the director raised the possibility of Superman actor David Corenswet potentially voicing the hero in a future game.

Earlier this year, Gunn and Safran indicated that the first DCU games are still “a couple of years away.” Safran emphasized their hands-on role in shaping upcoming titles at studios like NetherRealm (Injustice) and Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham), as they guide the franchise in a new creative direction.

“We review early concept designs for these projects,” Gunn explained at the time. “We provide input as narratives begin to take shape—suggesting potential alignment with our broader character plans, for instance—and help ensure everything fits together.”

A fresh vision for WB Games is still in the works. In the meantime, the studio recently revealed LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight as part of its gamescom 2025 lineup. Although some fans have expressed mixed feelings due to the limited character selection, many are already praising its faithful re-creation of classic film sequences and combat reminiscent of the Batman: Arkham series.
