Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, and has teased its debut game. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment's Studio Business Group, revealed that teamLFG originated at Bungie, the developers behind Destiny and Marathon. The studio is currently working on an ambitious incubation project that Hulst is very excited about.
The name teamLFG is derived from the online term 'Looking For Group,' suggesting a strong focus on social gaming. Their first game is described as a team-based action game, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Players will dive into a lighthearted, comedic world set in a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.
"We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging," teamLFG stated. They aim to foster an environment where players log in to find their teammates already online, recognize familiar names, and create memorable moments and stories from their gameplay experiences. "We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play that changed the whole story of the match. As we say on the team – dat’s da good stuff," the studio added.
The studio plans to develop immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with for countless hours, emphasizing action games that can be learned, played, and mastered. They intend to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback not only before the launch but throughout the game's live service phase.

teamLFG's game emerged as an incubation project from Bungie amidst significant layoffs in 2023 and 2024. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled with financial targets as Destiny 2 saw declining performance, resulting in layoffs affecting about 100 employees in November 2023 and another 220 in 2024, representing 17% of the studio's workforce. During this period, the incubation project was spun off and announced.
A former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing for improvements to Destiny 2, noting it was beneficial. Since then, Bungie has fully revealed the extraction shooter Marathon and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. There are no plans for Destiny 3, and a Destiny spinoff project called Payback has been canceled.
