Discover the intriguing world of inZOI, where cities can transform into ghost towns due to the karma system. Dive deeper into inZOI’s unique mechanics and mark your calendar for its early access launch.
In inZOI, the presence of too many ghosts can turn bustling cities into eerie ghost towns, significantly impacting the entire city's status. In a recent feature in PC Gamer Magazine, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim delved into the profound effects of the game's karma system on player experience.
Kim explained, "Every action a Zoi takes contributes to their karma points." He further detailed, "When a Zoi dies, a karma evaluation occurs. If their karma score is too low, they become a ghost and must work to redeem their karma before they can be reborn."
The director highlighted the consequences of neglecting this system, stating, "An excess of ghosts can prevent new Zois from being born and families from forming, thus placing the onus on players to manage the karma within their cities." This adds a layer of responsibility for players to maintain balance and prevent their cities from becoming ghost towns.
Kim emphasized that the karma system isn't about enforcing morality, saying, "Life isn't just black and white; every life has its own meaning and value." He encouraged players to engage with inZOI's karma system to "create diverse events and stories, exploring the multifaceted nature of life."
While inZOI presents a significant new entrant in the life simulation genre, potentially rivaling The Sims, Director Hyungjun Kim views it differently. He clarified, "We see inZOI not as a competitor to The Sims, but as another option for fans of the genre to enjoy."
Expressing admiration for The Sims, Kim said, "We hold great respect for the legacy The Sims has built. Achieving such depth in a short time is challenging, given the complexity and breadth of life sim games."
The goal for inZOI, according to Kim, is to offer a unique experience through its features. He noted, "inZOI is designed to let players shape their desired life using various creative tools. With realistic visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, in-depth customization, and AI-driven creative tools, we hope players can bring their imaginations to life, becoming their own protagonists in these worlds."
