Valor Mortis Unveiled at Gamescom Opening Night Live

At Gamescom Opening Night Live’s pre-show, the creators of Ghostrunner revealed their latest project: Valor Mortis. This single-player, first-person soulslike adventure unfolds in an alternate-history Eastern Europe during a fictionalized version of Napoleon’s invasion.

In Valor Mortis, you assume the role of William, a French soldier who died in battle and has inexplicably returned with the ability to wield a corrupting, plague-like substance known as the Nephtoglobin. While this force has twisted his former comrades into grotesque, zombie-like horrors, William can harness its power to battle Napoleon’s army and reclaim his homeland.

The game delivers a visceral and gory experience, with intense body horror as enemies mutate into increasingly twisted forms under the influence of the Nephtoglobin. As you uncover more of the substance, your own abilities evolve—unlocking devastating powers such as unleashing fire from your palms.

Valor Mortis is set for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A closed playtest will begin in the coming weeks—sign up now on the official website.
