Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide

Citizen Sleeper 2 presents players with three distinct starting classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. The optimal choice hinges entirely on your preferred playstyle. This guide offers insights into each class, considering both their abilities and roleplaying potential, based on a completed playthrough.

Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. Endure is not a viable skill path. Their unique ability allows them to trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While the Operator becomes significantly more potent as abilities are upgraded, the early game can prove challenging. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability, while helpful, doesn't guarantee improved outcomes. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, accommodating various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is unavailable for leveling. Their ability involves gaining Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, offset by a Stress reduction on positive outcomes. This ability improves significantly as the game progresses.

The Machinist was a personal favorite during my first playthrough. The ability proved incredibly useful in overcoming difficult situations, particularly given the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks. The inherent Stress reduction is a considerable advantage, as Stress management is a key challenge in the game. From a roleplaying perspective, this class suits players drawn to the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface skill. Intuit is not a viable skill path. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability that enhances crew performance on Contracts.

The Extractor's ability is highly effective in mitigating Contract risks. The initial Endure bonus is also beneficial, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, the abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage skills later in the game may lessen this advantage. For roleplayers, the Extractor embodies a more rugged, physically capable character.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview to assist in your class selection for Citizen Sleeper 2. Choose wisely!
