Tencent, a leading Chinese tech company, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This acquisition grants Tencent majority ownership, shaping the future of both companies.
Tencent now holds approximately 51.4% of Kuro Games' shares, securing a controlling stake. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the recent departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.
Despite this significant investment, Kuro Games maintains its operational independence, mirroring Tencent's approach with Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement emphasizes that this strategic move will foster a more stable environment and support its long-term growth strategy. Tencent has not yet released an official statement.
Kuro Games is celebrated for its acclaimed action RPG, Punishing: Gray Raven, and the recently released open-world adventure RPG, Wuthering Waves. Both games have achieved considerable success, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue. Their continued success is evident in ongoing updates and recognition, with Wuthering Waves earning a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
