Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; it demands robust defenses. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective method: barricading windows.
To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific supplies: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Acquisition of these materials is straightforward. Hammers and nails are commonly found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are frequently located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) in a pinch. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command for item spawning.
Barricaded windows offer significantly improved protection against zombie incursions compared to unguarded windows. The more planks applied, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll require either a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers; both players and zombies will pass through them. However, understanding furniture manipulation remains valuable for interior design purposes.
While this guide covers basic wooden barricades, stronger defenses using metal bars or sheets are achievable with sufficient Metalworking skill.
