Nightmare Crownless, a potent Nightmare Echo in Honkai: Star Rail's Wuthering Waves expansion, boasts enhanced Havoc and Basic Attack DMG, making it a valuable asset for specific characters. Unlike standard Echoes, obtaining Nightmare Crownless requires completing the "Ruins Where Shadows Roam" quest and an additional step.
This guide details the process of unlocking Nightmare Crownless:
1. Unlocking "Ruins Where Shadows Roam":
Unlike typical quests, "Ruins Where Shadows Roam" isn't initiated via an NPC or world interaction. Access it through the Exploration Progress menu for the Penitent's End region in Rinascita. Locate this menu by opening your map and selecting the compass icon in the upper-left corner.
2. Completing "Quest of Faith" (Optional but Recommended):
"Ruins Where Shadows Roam" is intrinsically linked to the optional "Quest of Faith." This involves defeating four enemies in designated Penitent's End locations. Begin by interacting with the prompt near the circular arena adjacent to the Resonance Beacon across the broken bridge in Wailing Ascent. This initiates a battle against a Questless Knight.
Defeating these knights requires strategic positioning. Lure them near lit Macabre Torches within the arena. These torches can be re-lit by using Fae Ignis enemies. Avoid using high-damage skills near the torches to prevent extinguishing them.
3. Locating the Dream Patrols:
After completing "Ruins Where Shadows Roam" and "Quest of Faith," locate all four Dream Patrols in Penitent's End. While completing these patrols isn't mandatory for unlocking Nightmare Crownless, doing so provides additional resources and Monnaie. The image below shows their locations.
4. Unlocking Nightmare Crownless:
Once all four Dream Patrols are located, Nightmare Crownless will appear on your map within the ruins north of Penitent's End.
Important Note on Enhanced Absorption Charges:
Nightmare Echoes utilize Enhanced Absorption charges, significantly boosting Echo drop rates. Players receive only 15 charges weekly, so judicious use is advised, especially if building multiple characters.
