Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet seems poised to grant players far greater freedom than the studio's earlier titles. Multiple reports indicate the developers drew inspiration from Elden Ring and plan to incorporate similar mechanics for open-world discovery.
Journalist Ben Hanson notes that the game is set on one vast planet, where players will unravel the secrets of a lost civilization and encounter a new religion, a central theme driving the narrative. While it's uncertain how closely the project will align with traditional open-world designs, the team is clearly shifting away from the linear style of their previous releases.
The Heretic Prophet marks the studio’s first project where the player ventures completely alone, with no companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann explains, the aim is to evoke a feeling of solitude within an uncharted cosmos, while also exploring themes of faith and belief in depth. The story takes place in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the rest of the galaxy for more than six centuries—this is where bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives to fulfill a contract.
Druckmann adds that Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island have influenced the game’s development, which may mean fewer conventional clues and more environmental storytelling, encouraging players to connect narrative pieces themselves.
The game was unveiled at TGA 2024 and currently has no announced release date.
