Marvel Snap: Unveiling the Dominant Redwing Decks

Marvel Snap's avian additions are few and far between, limited to Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey—until now. Redwing, Falcon's trusty companion, joins the roster as part of the Brave New World season.

Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap

Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it moves, a card is added from your hand to its previous location.

Several factors limit Redwing's effectiveness: Its one-time activation prevents multiple uses, even with cards like Symbiote Spider-Man. Precise card targeting is challenging; move decks often contain low-power cards (like Iron Fist) you'd prefer not to relocate, while Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards.

However, affordable movement options exist. Madame Web or Cloak (accessible to lower Collection Level players) can effectively deploy Redwing. Strategic placement can lead to surprising victories by quickly playing Galactus or a high-power card like The Infinaut.

Top Redwing Decks (Day One)

Ares and Surtur dominated the previous season, returning in a Scream-based deck enhanced by Aero and Heimdall. Redwing surprisingly integrates well, despite the near-universal preference for playing Surtur on turn 3. This deck, however, is expensive, requiring several Series 5 cards:

  • Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, and Cull Obsidian. Hydra Bob can be substituted (Rocket Racoon or Iceman are viable alternatives), but the others are crucial.

The strategy centers on turn 3 Surtur deployment, followed by high-power cards to boost its strength. Scream provides an alternative win condition by power stealing. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto offer "push" capabilities, while Redwing, played into Heimdall, buffs Surtur and draws a powerful card.

Another potential Redwing deck utilizes Madame Web, as Dagger's nerf has sidelined most move-based decks. Madame Web's Ongoing ability suits recent Ongoing-focused decks:

  • This deck includes two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. Removing Madame Web necessitates removing Redwing for another Ongoing card (like Mobius M. Mobius).

This is primarily a Doom 2099 Ongoing deck, aiming for rapid power distribution across locations. Madame Web assists by repositioning Doom 2099 units to avoid location overflow and provides an alternative way to move Sam Wilson's shield. Redwing's activation is solely through Madame Web, adding a card to her location on the following turn. Doctor Doom or Spectrum are played on turn 6 for final power distribution or a power spike.

Is Redwing Worth the Investment?

Currently, no. Redwing is considered underpowered and relies on a weak archetype. Saving resources for future, stronger cards is recommended unless significant buffs are implemented.
