Marvel Rivals Shatters Player Count Record with Season 1 Launch
Marvel Rivals has achieved a new peak in concurrent players, surpassing its previous record following the release of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. The game reached a staggering 644,269 concurrent players on January 11th, significantly exceeding its previous high of 480,990 during its launch week.
The surge in players is directly attributed to the launch of Season 1, which introduced a wealth of new content. This includes exciting additions such as new playable characters, a fresh game map, performance improvements and optimizations, a revamped ranked system, and a new Battle Pass. The influx of new content clearly captivated players worldwide.
The season's narrative revolves around Dracula and Doctor Doom plunging the game's city into perpetual darkness and unleashing vampiric forces. To counter this threat, players are joined by the Fantastic Four, adding another layer of excitement to the gameplay.

While Season 1 brought much-celebrated additions, it also resulted in the removal of community-created mods. The update implemented asset hash checking, a security measure designed to detect and prevent the use of unauthorized modifications, cheats, and hacks. This has unfortunately affected players using custom skins and other modifications.
Community reaction has been mixed. While some mourn the loss of custom content, such as Luna Snow's Hatsune Miku skin, others view the change as necessary to maintain fair play and protect the game's economy, which relies heavily on cosmetic purchases.
