After the releases of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, several CD Projekt RED veterans, including the team behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, chose to pursue independent projects.
Recently unveiled, The Blood of Dawnwalker is developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by a CD Projekt RED veteran.
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, explaining his departure from CDPR, cited the following key reasons:
The desire to explore new creative avenues with trusted friends led to the formation of Rebel Wolves. While sharing a deep appreciation for RPGs and their history, the team believed in pushing the boundaries of established RPG conventions. They developed innovative ideas that proved difficult to implement within the framework of a larger corporation, particularly concerning the development of entirely new intellectual property. The perceived risk associated with these novel approaches ultimately necessitated the creation of an independent studio. This risk is inherent in their innovative approach.
Rebel Wolves prioritizes close collaboration and strong interpersonal relationships, a stark contrast to the often more complex dynamics of larger studios. Tomaszkiewicz believes that a smaller team fosters better communication, allowing for easier discussion and alignment on the creative vision. This collaborative environment, he contends, makes it easier to maintain creative passion and develop truly unique projects.
