The CEO of Electronic Arts is hinting at the revival of EA College Basketball, just one month after a mysterious EA Sports tweet reignited excitement among basketball gaming enthusiasts.

During today's Q1 earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson addressed questions about the potential return of College Basketball, likely prompted by the viral tweet. According to June reports and the clever hint, College Basketball is indeed set to make a comeback from EA, though fans will need to wait—it’s not expected until 2028.

Here is Wilson’s full, cautiously optimistic response:

We can’t share too many details just yet, but considering the opportunity—especially following our success with College Football—college sports boast one of the most passionate fanbases worldwide. That enthusiasm naturally extends to basketball. We’re seeing fan engagement in college basketball continue to rise. Fans, athletes, and universities pour their hearts into these sports, and that passion is what makes them unique and captivating.
With that enthusiasm, however, come high expectations and a demand for deeply authentic experiences: capturing on-court action, representing the energy, pageantry, and traditions, and celebrating the unique sights, sounds, and stories of every school and rivalry. We believe we've delivered that exceptionally well with College Football...and we’re eager to do the same for basketball. All 350 programs, men's and women's teams, iconic traditions, rivalries, and of course, March Madness.
For us, college sports as a whole represent a thrilling opportunity. We're proud of what we’ve achieved and remain dedicated to delivering in the college football space. We’re confident that with our team, technology, and commitment to College Football, we have a strong foundation to replicate that success in college basketball. As we move forward with these plans, we’ll be sharing more updates.

According to The Athletic, EA Sports' proposed College Basketball game—endorsed by the Collegiate Licensing Company—would feature all Division I men's and women's teams (totaling 730). The series, planned for six releases starting in 2028, would include popular modes like Dynasty Mode, Team Builder, Road to Glory, and Ultimate Team, similar to College Football.

EA last released a College Basketball title in 2009, but the series was discontinued due to legal disputes over athlete likenesses and declining sales compared to College Football. However, the recent success of College Football appears to have renewed EA's interest in basketball—though they may face competition from 2K Sports, as hinted by an official NBA 2K social media post.
