Xbox Reveals Ninja Gaiden Comeback

Team Ninja's long-awaited Ninja Gaiden 4 is finally on the horizon, thanks to a collaborative effort between Team Ninja, Koei Tecmo, and PlatinumGames. Producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that the project had been in the works for years, hampered by a lack of a clear concept. A conversation between Koei Tecmo's Hisashi Koinuma, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba, and Xbox's Phil Spencer ultimately led to the three companies joining forces.

Spencer confirmed discussions began as early as 2017, aiming for a sequel. PlatinumGames, renowned for titles like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, proved the ideal partner to bring Team Ninja's vision to life, providing expertise in fast-paced action gameplay.

The surprise announcement came alongside a re-release of the enhanced Ninja Gaiden 2 Black for Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC. The initial trailer showcases Ryu Hayabusa, the iconic ninja protagonist, in a thrilling, action-packed adventure. Gameplay footage hints at innovative mechanics, including swift traversal using wires and rails, setting Ninja Gaiden 4 apart from its predecessors.

While DOOM: The Dark Ages dominated the Developer_Direct event, the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4, a highly anticipated addition to the Koei Tecmo franchise, generated significant excitement. The game is slated for release in Fall 2025.
