Owlcat Games, renowned for its critically acclaimed cRPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, has announced a significant expansion into game publishing. This strategic move, following their acquisition of META Publishing in 2021, aims to support and amplify narrative-driven games from other developers.
The studio's publishing initiative is driven by a desire to broaden its influence within the gaming industry and collaborate with studios that share its passion for compelling narratives. Owlcat will leverage its expertise to provide developers with the resources and support necessary to bring their vision to life.
Owlcat has already partnered with two promising development teams:
Emotion Spark Studio (Serbia): Developing Rue Valley, a narrative RPG centered around a protagonist trapped in a time loop within a mysterious town. The game explores themes of mental health and personal growth.
Another Angle Games (Poland): Creating Shadow of the Road, an isometric RPG set in an alternate feudal Japan blending samurai culture, honor, and steampunk technology with tactical turn-based combat.
Both Rue Valley and Shadow of the Road are in early development, with more details expected soon. Owlcat's commitment to these projects underscores its dedication to fostering innovative and engaging storytelling in the gaming world. The studio plans to regularly update fans on the progress of these titles.
Owlcat's foray into publishing represents a significant step, aiming to cultivate diverse narrative experiences and contribute to the broader growth of the gaming industry. This initiative promises to not only showcase emerging talent but also enrich the landscape of narrative-driven games for players globally.
