Microsoft's AI Copilot is expanding its reach, heading to Xbox to enhance your gaming experience. Soon, Xbox Insiders will get to test Copilot for gaming via the Xbox mobile app. This AI chatbot, already integrated into Windows, will offer several helpful features.

Initially, Copilot will let you install games (easily done with a single button already), check your play history, achievements, and game library. Need a game recommendation? Just ask! Direct voice interaction within the Xbox app during gameplay will also be available, mirroring Copilot's current Windows functionality.

One of Copilot's key roles will be as a gaming assistant. Similar to its PC counterpart, you'll be able to ask questions about games—how to defeat a boss, solve a puzzle—and Copilot will draw on information from various online sources like guides, websites, wikis, and forums. This functionality will soon be available on the Xbox app.

Microsoft emphasizes accuracy, collaborating with game studios to ensure Copilot provides information aligned with their vision and always cites the original source.

Microsoft's ambitions for Copilot extend beyond its initial features. Future possibilities include walkthrough assistance, item location tracking, and even real-time strategy suggestions for competitive games. While these are currently concepts, Microsoft is committed to deep Copilot integration with Xbox gameplay, working with both first-party and third-party studios.

Regarding data privacy, Xbox Insiders will have control over Copilot usage during the preview, including data access and sharing. However, Microsoft hasn't ruled out mandatory Copilot integration in the future. A spokesperson stated: "During this preview on mobile, players will be able to decide how and when they want to interact with Copilot for Gaming, whether it has access to their conversation history, and what it does on their behalf. As we preview and test Copilot for Gaming with players early, we will continue to be transparent about what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices players have around sharing their personal data."

Beyond player-focused applications, Microsoft will detail developer-focused plans at the Game Developers Conference next week.
