Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Player Numbers Break Records Again and Again

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been shattering its concurrent player records on Steam every day since its release. Dive into the details of the game's phenomenal success and what the future holds for this medieval masterpiece.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success

250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has soared to new heights, reaching over 250,000 concurrent Steam players by February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra proudly shared on Twitter (X) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its own records for concurrent players each day from February 4 to February 9.

  • February 4: 159,351 concurrent Steam players
  • February 5: 176,285 concurrent Steam players
  • February 6: 185,582 concurrent Steam players
  • February 7: 190,194 concurrent Steam players
  • February 8: 233,586 concurrent Steam players
  • February 9: 256,206 concurrent Steam players

Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone. It currently ranks as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, just behind Counter-Strike 2, and is the 5th most-played game, trailing CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana. With 1 million copies sold at launch, KCD2 is on track to reach 2 million sales soon.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, enhancing player immersion and enjoyment. Known for its commitment to realism, the series continues to push boundaries with features like food spoilage, the need for cleaning clothes and armor, and sword maintenance. KCD2 introduces new elements that further immerse players in a 15th-century medieval world.

Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic where players accumulate dirt and grime, eventually leading to a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you," Bittner explained. "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also introduces "handgonnes," a historically accurate depiction of early firearms. Bittner told PC Gamer that these weapons are challenging to use, with long reload times and poor accuracy, making them a "meme weapon" that the team embraced.

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized their focus on authenticity over hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible," he stated.

Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios has outlined a robust post-launch roadmap to keep players engaged throughout 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content to maintain its momentum.

Free updates scheduled for Spring 2025 include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.

With its stellar opening weekend and a promising roadmap, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success and potentially break more records.
