Idris Elba Wants a Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action Movie With Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has publicly expressed his strong desire for a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film, ideally starring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves share the screen), Elba revealed his enthusiasm for such a project. He stated that a live-action adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077 would be incredible, and the pairing of his character, Solomon Reed, with Reeves' iconic Johnny Silverhand would be "Whoa."
Elba's wish might not be entirely unfounded. Variety reported in October 2023 that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is in development, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the ongoing Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk adaptation is a viable proposition.
Beyond the live-action film prospect, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar's backstory. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and CD Projekt Red has hinted at a new animated series in the works. Fans can look forward to a busy future for the Cyberpunk franchise.
