The momentum of the long-standing GTA 6 mapping project has skyrocketed following the release of the second trailer. A key member of the team told IGN that "it completely reshapes our plans for the entire year ahead."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord server is now a hive of activity. Its 370 members—soon to exceed 400—are diving into the wealth of new information revealed in the second trailer.
Garza, the server's administrator, described the situation to IGN as "an information overload—it completely changes our roadmap for the rest of the year. We have an abundance of new material to analyze, and we are just at the beginning."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was launched in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks—the same leaks many believe Rockstar subtly nodded to in the opening of the second trailer. The project's mission is to assemble the most precise GTA 6 map possible, a task that, until now, relied on those initial leaks and the first trailer from December 2023.
Project lead DuPz0r's most recent GTA 6 map, published in late March, is already outdated. The flood of details from the second trailer is enabling the team to create a far more accurate and comprehensive version.

In addition to confirming story elements, introducing characters, and releasing 70 brand-new GTA 6 screenshots, Rockstar shared information and visuals of explorable locations within Leonida—the game's fictional version of Florida.
Locations confirmed in this week's reveal include Vice City (GTA 6's Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga—a national landmark situated near the state's northern border.
Beyond that, the volunteer mappers are meticulously analyzing the trailer itself to pinpoint the exact location of every scene. They are also working to match images of fictional settings with their real-world inspirations as they solidify more of GTA 6's map. Once the analysis is complete, DuPz0r will publish an updated map, which fans hope will offer the clearest preview yet of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.
And if Rockstar releases more GTA 6 assets before then—perhaps when fans get their first proper look at gameplay—the volunteers will begin the process all over again. Only when the game is finally released and they can compare their fan-made map with the official one will they know just how accurate their efforts have been.

Of course, a looming concern for the GTA 6 mapping project is the possibility of a shutdown by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company. In March, a modder who created a playable recreation of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 halted all work after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. That mod was itself based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
When I asked Garza last year if he was worried about potential action from Take-Two, he acknowledged "some mild concern."
"This initiative has been running for a considerable time without any direct interference from the company," Garza explained. "Still, I always keep in mind the possibility that they might reach out to us someday. We do not directly display leaked content on the map, so I don't think that specific aspect would be targeted. I suspect they recognize that this project fuels excitement and anticipation for the game, since everyone is eager to see how the world might look. That might be one reason they haven't intervened—it's not particularly harmful. However, if I were to receive a cease and desist order, I would, of course, comply respectfully. As our map becomes increasingly detailed, it's possible we might get that notice in the future."
