Bungie, the acclaimed studio behind Halo and Destiny, is facing a significant upheaval. The company recently announced the layoff of 220 employees—approximately 17% of its workforce—a decision met with widespread backlash from employees and the gaming community. This follows a period of what some are calling extravagant spending by CEO Pete Parsons.

Layoffs and Restructuring

CEO Pete Parsons cited rising development costs, industry shifts, and economic challenges as the reasons for the layoffs. The cuts impacted all levels of the company, including executive roles. While severance packages were promised, the timing—following the successful release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape—added fuel to the fire. One of Bungie's incubation projects will become a new studio within PlayStation Studios.
