Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment's highly anticipated fantasy RPG, is set to launch in 2025, offering players a deeply immersive and complex experience. Game director Carrie Patel recently provided insights into the game's intricate gameplay and multiple endings.
"The game provides constant opportunities for players to express themselves and explore their character's alignment," Patel explained. She highlighted the importance of mindful gameplay, encouraging players to consider their emotional responses and what captivates their attention throughout the experience.
The player's choices directly impact their journey through Eora's intricate world, particularly within The Living Lands, where political control is fiercely contested. Patel emphasized the interconnectedness of the narrative threads, stating, "I've enjoyed discovering the stories that link these two worlds."
Players take on the role of an Aedyran Empire envoy, tasked with investigating a spiritual plague while simultaneously pursuing their political ambitions. "Meaningful roleplay comes from giving players rich content to delve into," Patel noted. "It's about shaping who you want to be in this world and how the game's situations allow you to express that identity."
Beyond the rich RPG mechanics, Avowed features strategic combat that seamlessly blends magic, swords, and firearms. Patel stressed the variability of each playthrough, stating, "The abilities and weapon choices you make drastically alter the experience."
In an interview with IGN, Patel confirmed the existence of numerous endings, each a unique culmination of player choices. "We have a double-digit number of ending slides, with many possible combinations," she revealed. "True to Obsidian's style, your ending is a direct reflection of your choices throughout the game, influenced by the content you encounter and your actions within it."
