Zelda's Own Game Will Also Let You Play as Link

Nintendo's upcoming title, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, slated for a September release, will feature Princess Zelda in her first starring role. A recent ESRB rating reveals a surprising twist: players will also control Link.

The description notes Zelda's quest to seal rifts across Hyrule and rescue Link. Gameplay mechanics differ between characters: Link wields sword and arrows, while Zelda uses a magic wand to summon creatures (wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for combat. Enemies are defeated through various means, including fire and disintegration.

This marks a significant departure for the Zelda franchise, making Zelda the protagonist for the first time. The game's announcement generated considerable excitement, becoming a top wishlisted title following its summer showcase reveal.

The extent of Link's playable segments remains undisclosed. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches September 26, 2024.

Hyrule Edition Switch Lite: Now Available for Pre-Order

To coincide with the game's release, Nintendo offers a Zelda-themed Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, currently available for pre-order. Priced at $49.99, this special edition console doesn't include the game but bundles a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.

The golden-colored console boasts the Hyrule crest on the back and a subtle Triforce symbol on the front.
