Recently canceled Transformers: Reactivate, a co-op game announced in 2022 by Splash Damage in partnership with Hasbro, has seen previously leaked gameplay footage resurface. The game, set to feature Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons uniting against an alien threat to Earth, saw minimal public appearances beyond leaks and associated action figures. Its cancellation, announced by Splash Damage, led to speculation and potential staff redundancies as the developer shifts focus.
Shortly after the cancellation, leaked footage from a 2020 build emerged, offering a glimpse into the game's potential. The footage showcases Bumblebee navigating a ruined city, seamlessly transforming between robot and vehicle modes, and utilizing various weapons. The gameplay bears resemblance to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, but features Bumblebee battling "the Legion," an alien force serving as the game's antagonists.
Despite some missing textures, the leaked footage presents a polished look, including environmental destruction as Bumblebee progresses. An unfinished cutscene concludes the clip, showing Bumblebee emerging from a portal in New York City and communicating with an ally, Devin, about the Legion's attacks.
Numerous other leaks, dating back to 2020, predate the game's official announcement and subsequent cancellation. While Transformers: Reactivate remains unplayed, the leaked footage provides insight into Splash Damage's vision for this ambitious, yet ultimately unrealized, multiplayer title.
