Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's roundup features a hefty batch of new releases, forming the core of our discussion, as is typical on Thursdays. We'll also explore a substantial list of new sales. Unfortunately, Nintendo Directs aren't a daily occurrence, but let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a lengthy hiatus, bringing a new case to solve. This latest installment stays true to the originals, both in its strengths and weaknesses. Expect a fresh mystery, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the case of the latest serial killings? My review is forthcoming.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short, you build and battle Gunpla. While the Switch port understandably lags behind other versions in performance, it's still a solid experience. Check out Mikhail's review for the full scoop – it's a great read!

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes and re-imaginings. Following successful revivals of Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors, and Pocky & Rocky, they now tackle an 8-bit classic. This iteration differs significantly from the original. If you crave classic-styled action-platforming, this is worth considering. My review will be published early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel, but with a twist! This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter, a departure from its predecessor. While the genre shift might surprise some, it offers a fun experience. My review is on its way.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm a bit puzzled by this one. The food imagery is stunning, but the gameplay remains a mystery. Photography? Secret-finding? Perhaps Mikhail will shed some light on this one.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

If you're a fan of monster trucks, this might be for you. It features both local and online multiplayer, along with numerous game modes. Reception on other platforms has been mixed, but monster truck enthusiasts have limited options.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

I believe this is a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, it's a significant investment, approaching the cost of a full-fledged Atelier game. However, it appears to be the best-looking WitchSpring yet.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. You investigate the disappearance of your crew, exploring a vast and dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, it likely will find a fanbase on the Switch.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

A vegan vampire rebelling against his blood-thirsty father. Expect farming and action as you fend off your father's attempts to derail your lifestyle. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by this genre, it might appeal to those seeking a farming/action blend.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. Secret collectibles and challenges add to the replayability. If you enjoy fast-paced marble rolling, this is a solid choice.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A firefighting game geared towards a younger audience, featuring twenty missions. While not overly realistic, it might appeal to kids interested in firefighting.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is decent, the Switch version suffers from technical issues affecting the overall experience. Consider this if you're not overly sensitive to framerate drops.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, classic shooter experience.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack for Xanadu, featuring a new underworld to explore. Gameplay is similar to the original, but more challenging. Notable for featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Best experienced with up to ten players online. Solo play might appeal to a niche audience due to its repetitive nature.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, must deal with worms. One hundred handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh. A strong contender for puzzle game fans.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja-themed challenges. Local multiplayer or CPU competition is available.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A surprisingly fun game with two modes: falling blocks and a wood-block-puzzle style. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.
