Director Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool and Wolverine, is reportedly on the verge of joining the Star Wars universe, bringing Ryan Gosling along for the ride. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Levy's Star Wars film is in negotiations with Gosling to star. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script completed last year. He's once again collaborating with Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project.
Details about the film are shrouded in secrecy. Neither Gosling's role nor the film's time period within the Star Wars timeline have been revealed. However, it's confirmed to be separate from the Skywalker Saga and intended as a standalone film, rather than the start of a trilogy.
The involvement of Ryan Gosling appears to have expedited the project. Levy was previously attached to direct a boy band film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The Hollywood Reporter suggests that if Gosling signs on, Levy's Star Wars movie will become his next project, with production potentially starting this fall.
