Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. This monumental project, driven by a dedicated team of volunteer developers, has been a labor of love spanning several years. The mod team recently reaffirmed their commitment to a 2025 release during a new developer update stream, where they showcased their progress and expressed hope to possibly beat their own timeline with the community's support.

Calling it a mere one-to-one remake would be an understatement. The Skyblivion team is not just recreating Oblivion; they're enhancing it. From making unique items truly stand out to revamping boss encounters to match their fearsome reputation—take Mannimarco, for example—the team is dedicated to improving the game's experience. The recent livestream highlighted the stunning overhaul of the "A Brush with Death" quest, showcasing the beautifully painted world that awaits players.

This project is even more intriguing given the backdrop of rumors surrounding an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, alleged details emerged about potential changes to combat and other elements in a Bethesda-led project. Microsoft has remained tight-lipped on the matter, and while an Oblivion remaster was mentioned in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial in 2023, no official confirmation has been made. Other projects mentioned in those documents, such as an Indiana Jones game, have already seen the light of day, but the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remain unconfirmed.

Given Bethesda's history of embracing modding communities across their titles, from classics to the latest like Starfield, there's hope that Skyblivion won't face the same obstacles that the Fallout London mod encountered before its planned release. As we approach 2025, the excitement builds for what could be a remarkable new way to experience the world of Oblivion, all thanks to the passion and dedication of the Skyblivion team.
