Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission has arrived, focusing entirely on the eagerly awaited "Silent Hill f," the newest installment in the iconic horror series set in 1960s Japan. Initially announced in 2022, Silent Hill f promises a "beautiful, therefore terrifying" experience, penned by the renowned Japanese visual novel writer, Ryukishi07, known for the Higurashi and Umineko series.
After nearly three years, we're finally getting a deeper look into Silent Hill f. The game aims to "find the beauty in terror," presenting players with a crucial, beautiful yet terrifying choice within its haunting setting.
Konami unveiled a new trailer and shared extensive details about the game. The story follows Shimizu Hinkao, a typical teenager whose life turns upside down when her town is engulfed in fog and transforms horrifically. As she navigates this unrecognizable town, she must solve puzzles, battle bizarre foes, and survive to confront a pivotal decision. This narrative offers a fresh start for new players while including Easter Eggs for long-time fans.
The game is set in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by Kanayama, Gero, in Gifu Prefecture. Creature and character designer Kera, a fan of the Silent Hill series, emphasized the influence of Silent Hill 2 on the new game's design, aiming to create something unique yet true to the series' essence. Kera discussed the challenges of designing monsters that honor the series' legacy while charting a new course.
Music plays a pivotal role in Silent Hill f, with contributions from long-time Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage, known for his work on the Dynasty Warriors series. Inage described his approach as blending ancient Japanese court music with ambient sounds to evoke the protagonist's emotions and connect players to her journey.
While a release date remains undisclosed, Silent Hill f is confirmed for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
