Reaching max level in Rune Slayer often leads adventurers to the formidable Hill Troll—a rewarding foe offering both substantial XP and valuable early endgame loot. But finding this behemoth is the first challenge. This guide reveals the Hill Troll's location and provides strategies for conquering it.
The Hill Troll resides within a cave nestled on the mountainside in Bahlgar. The easiest access point is via the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar as you would to fight Beastmen, but instead of jumping down to their area, follow the mountain's wall. Pass two platinum deposits, and you'll spot the cave entrance on the mountain's flank. You'll need to jump into this opening—a mount is recommended for easier access. While it might seem tricky initially, repeated trips become straightforward. See our GIF for a visual guide (we even joined a group battle!).
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is a relatively manageable mini-boss, though you'll likely face it repeatedly.
Solo attempts are strongly discouraged; team up (at least two players) for a smoother fight. Many players farm the Troll, making group encounters common. The Troll respawns every 90 seconds after defeat. The Hill Troll attacks with a powerful pillar, its attacks are slow but impactful. You can parry and block most attacks, but its double-handed overhead pillar slam requires immediate evasion to avoid stunning. Successful damage can stagger the Troll. Warrior class players can often stun it with a well-timed counter.
While rare equipment drops are possible, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are crucial for crafting decent endgame equipment, providing a solid upgrade before tackling tougher bosses like the Mother Spider.
The Troll Head is a quest item for the repeatable Hodor quest. Hourly, you can trade a Troll Head to Hodor (near the cave) for a chance at powerful gear. This makes farming the Hill Troll even more worthwhile.
No, the Hill Troll cannot be tamed, even for Beast Tamer Archers. Its size and mini-boss status make it unsuitable as a pet. Stick to more manageable creatures like the Mud Crab.
Enjoy the (repeated) battles with the Hill Troll, and may your loot be plentiful! For more endgame guidance, see our Essential Rune Slayer Endgame Tips.
