Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 (PS4) games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 (PS5) titles.

This change, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, means PS4 games will become less frequent additions to the monthly offerings and the Games Catalog. Sony stated that this shift reflects the increasing PS5 player base and their preference for PS5 games. Existing subscribers will retain access to previously downloaded PS4 games, and Games Catalog titles will remain playable until their scheduled removal.

Sony assures subscribers that PlayStation Plus will continue to evolve, with ongoing benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company anticipates adding new PS5 titles monthly.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony's decision reflects the market shift towards the newer console. The company's future plans regarding PS4 games in the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog remain unannounced.
