The Pokémon GO Tour Pass: A Free (and Paid) Way to Enhance Your Unova Adventure

Many Pokémon GO players immediately ask about the price of new in-game passes. The new Pokémon GO Tour Pass, however, is a surprising free offering – but what exactly does it entail?

Understanding the Pokémon GO Tour Pass

Introduced with the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova global event, the Tour Pass utilizes a points-based system. Players earn Tour Points by completing various in-game tasks, unlocking rewards, increasing rank, and boosting event bonuses.

The free Tour Pass is automatically awarded at the start of the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event (February 24th, 10 AM local time). A paid version, the Tour Pass Deluxe ($14.99 USD or equivalent), offers an immediate Victini encounter, enhanced rewards, and faster progression through the tiers.

Earning and Utilizing Tour Points

Tour Points are earned through familiar activities like catching Pokémon, participating in raids, and hatching eggs, along with daily Pass Tasks. These points unlock rewards, increase your rank within the Tour Pass tiers, and enhance event bonuses.

Higher ranks unlock better rewards (Pokémon encounters, Candy, Poké Balls, etc.) and increase Catch XP bonuses during the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova event. Bonuses include:

• 1.5x Catch XP (Tier 2)
• 2x Catch XP (Tier 3)
• 3x Catch XP (Tier 4)

While Niantic has yet to reveal all rewards, the free Tour Pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a unique background. The Tour Pass Deluxe's top reward is a Lucky Trinket.

Decoding the Lucky Trinket

The Lucky Trinket, a reward exclusive to the Tour Pass Deluxe, is a single-use item transforming a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend. This allows for a Lucky Pokémon trade without needing Best Friend status. Note that Lucky Trinkets expire on March 9th, 2025.
