This guide details how to obtain Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamence in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Bagon, a Dragon-type Pokémon evolving into the powerful Salamence, is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. This guide covers location strategies, trading, and evolution methods, along with Salamence's strengths, weaknesses, and recommended movesets.

Locating Bagon in Pokémon Violet

Several locations in Pokémon Violet offer Bagon encounters:

  • East Province (Area Three): This expansive area, rich with explorable caves, is a prime hunting ground.
  • South Province (Area Five): A fixed Bagon spawn resides atop a mountain southwest of the bridge connecting the grassy and rocky regions.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Located north of the Great Crater and south of Glaseado Mountain, this area features a deep hole accessible by Koraidon/Miraidon, containing various rare Pokémon including Bagon and Frigibax.
  • 3-Star Tera Raids: Once you've earned three Gym Badges, participate in 3-Star Tera Raids for a chance to encounter Bagon (Tera Type may vary). These raids may offer Bagon with its Hidden Ability.

Acquiring Bagon in Pokémon Scarlet

Since Bagon is exclusive to Pokémon Violet, obtaining it in Scarlet requires trading or transferring via Pokémon HOME:

  • Trading: Utilize the Union Circle to trade with a Pokémon Violet player. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features.

  • Pokémon HOME Transfer: If you own Pokémon HOME, transfer Bagon from compatible games (Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, etc.) following these steps:

    1. Open Pokémon HOME and select the source game.
    2. Move Bagon to the Basic Box and save.
    3. Open your Pokémon Scarlet file and transfer Bagon to a PC Box.
    4. Save.

Evolving Bagon

Bagon evolves into Shelgon at level 30 and into Salamence at level 50. Efficient leveling methods include:

  • Auto-Battling: Use the auto-battle feature against appropriately leveled Pokémon (Chansey is recommended for high experience gains). Chansey locations include East Province (Area Two), North Province (Areas One-Three), Casseroya Lake, and West Province (Areas Two-Three).
  • Exp. Candy: Utilize Exp. Candy L or XL for rapid level increases.

Alternatively, Shelgon and Salamence can be obtained from 4-star and 5/6-star Tera Raids, respectively.
