Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases, too! This usually quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's a welcome change. We've got news, a review of today's eShop additions, and our regular sales lists. Let's dive in!

News

The Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivered

Combining two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a wealth of announcements. While I can't cover everything here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new Atelier and Rune Factory titles, and much more. I recommend watching the video; even a quick skim will reveal plenty of enticing games for diverse tastes.

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

A third Castlevania compilation, unexpectedly released alongside the Direct, is a welcome addition. This collection features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the notoriously poor arcade game, Haunted Castle, alongside an M2-developed remake that significantly improves upon the original. M2's expert emulation and comprehensive features make this a fantastic value.

Pizza Tower ($19.99)

This Wario Land-inspired platformer, another surprise release, is now available on Switch. Players must navigate five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to destroy it and save their restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will appreciate this title, but even those without a strong Wario connection who enjoy platformers should consider it. A review is pending.

Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)

The surprise releases continue! On a Wednesday, these unexpected launches are a boon. Goat Simulator 3 is exactly what you'd expect. Performance on the Switch is unconfirmed, but given struggles on more powerful consoles, proceed with caution. However, poor performance might even enhance the game's chaotic charm. Ultimately, it's a question of whether silly goats in an open world will appeal to you, or potentially cause your Switch to overheat.

Peglin ($19.99)

While it's easy to criticize companies for missed opportunities, EA's decision to not bring PopCap games to Switch seems like a significant oversight. A collection would have been ideal. For Peggle fans, Peglin is a strong alternative. Already available on mobile, this title blends Peggle mechanics with a turn-based RPG roguelite structure. A review is forthcoming.

Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)

Kairosoft's shop simulation formula gets a fresh coat of paint with this Doraemon licensed title. The game faithfully incorporates the popular manga and anime characters, even including cameos from the artist's other works. A charming addition to the genre.

Pico Park 2 ($8.99)

More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can participate via local or online multiplayer. The puzzle stages require teamwork and strategic thinking. A solid sequel, but unlikely to attract new players.

Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)

An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple, but enjoyable for the price.

SokoPenguin ($4.99)

A straightforward Sokoban-style puzzle game with a penguin theme. One hundred levels.

Q2 Humanity ($6.80)

Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Players utilize character abilities and drawing mechanics. Supports up to four players locally or online.
