DC Studios head James Gunn has officially announced Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max this August 21, sharing brief new footage of John Cena's return.
Gunn described the Season 2 premiere as "one of my favorite things ever" in a social media post showcasing Cena suited up as Peacemaker smirking amid fiery destruction. The footage emphasizes Peacemaker has fully embraced his superhero role.
The anticipated second season follows DCU's theatrical debut of Superman on July 11 and animated series Creature Commandos, marking Peacemaker as the third installment in Gunn's rebooted universe.
While Gunn's new DC Universe distances itself from the controversial DCEU (home to films like Justice League and Batman v Superman), some elements will carry over. Peacemaker uniquely transitions between continuities - Season 1 existed in the old DCEU while Season 2 joins the new DCU.
The entire original cast returns including John Cena as Peacemaker, joined by Freddie Stroma (Adrian Chase), Danielle Brooks (Leota Adebayo), and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
Gunn confirms Season 2 occurs chronologically after both Creature Commandos and Superman, with events from the Man of Steel's film directly impacting Peacemaker's story.
The director emphasizes maintaining continuity for Peacemaker's core narrative while adapting elements for DCU integration. Specific carryovers between universes remain to be seen when Season 2 hits Max this August.
