Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Mysterious Switch Online Playtest
Forget your 2024 predictions – Nintendo just dropped a new interactive alarm clock! The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, priced at $99, is now available, alongside a secretive Switch Online playtest.
Wake Up in the Game World with Alarmo
The Alarmo uses game sounds from titles like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon to rouse you from slumber. Additional free sound updates are planned. The alarm's unique feature? It only shuts off once you're completely out of bed, rewarding your morning triumph with a victory fanfare. A hand wave will temporarily quiet the alarm, but persistent snoozing will only make it louder.
The clock utilizes a radio wave sensor to detect movement without video recording, ensuring privacy. This allows for detection even in dark rooms or with obstacles, as long as the radio waves can penetrate. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama highlights the sensor's ability to detect subtle movements.
Currently, US and Canadian Nintendo Switch Online members enjoy early access via the My Nintendo Store. The Alarmo is also available in-store at Nintendo New York while supplies last.
