Netflix is venturing into the world of MMOs with their latest announcement at GDC 2025: Spirit Crossing. This cozy life-simulation game is being developed by Spry Fox, the creators of beloved titles like Cozy Grove and Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit. Fans of Spry Fox can look forward to the same heartwarming pastel visuals, soothing soundtracks, and a strong emphasis on building connections rather than competing against others.
In Spirit Crossing, players will have the chance to roam a sprawling world, construct and personalize homes, and foster a vibrant village alongside fellow players. Activities include gathering resources, riding adorable fluffy creatures, participating in dance parties, and simply enjoying the company of friends. The game's visual style draws inspiration from Studio Ghibli, French comics, and even incorporates elements of modern art like Corporate Memphis, aiming to create an atmosphere that feels both timeless and welcoming—a place where players might choose to stay for years.
A distinctive feature of Spirit Crossing is its in-game calendar system, which adds a realistic touch to progression. For instance, trees you plant will take three to six real-world months to grow into a harvestable orchard. This slow-paced, long-term design echoes the successful approach Spry Fox took with Cozy Grove.
At the heart of Spirit Crossing is the focus on forging meaningful connections, a core element of Spry Fox’s design ethos. David Edery, co-founder of the studio, expressed his vision for the game to be a space where strangers could become friends.
