The formation of Reburn, a studio comprised of former 4A Games Ukraine developers (creators of the acclaimed Metro series), prompted 4A Games to reaffirm their dedication to the Metro franchise. This clarification followed Reburn's announcement of their debut project, La Quimera, which naturally raised questions about the future of Metro.

In an official statement, 4A Games addressed any confusion, congratulating Reburn on La Quimera while simultaneously emphasizing their continued commitment to the Metro series. The statement read: “We remain the team responsible for bringing you the beloved Metro games. Our efforts toward the next Metro installment continue in partnership with Dmitry Glukhovsky, guided by the same visionaries and talent that have shaped the series since its inception.”
Beyond the upcoming Metro sequel, 4A Games hinted at development on a completely new intellectual property (IP), though details remain under wraps. They highlighted their pride in their Ukrainian heritage and diverse team, noting that approximately 150 of their over 200 employees are based in Kyiv, with additional teams in Sliema, Malta, and remote locations.
Regarding the separation, 4A Games explained: “Following the completion of Metro Exodus and its DLC, we collaborated closely with our partners at 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Post-Exodus, we founded 4A Games Limited in Kyiv, absorbing roughly 50 more colleagues to sustain our momentum. Simultaneously, 4A Games Ukraine embarked on their standalone journey with La Quimera, eventually rebranding as Reburn.”
Since the launch of Metro Exodus in early 2019, fan anticipation has steadily grown, particularly given the limited updates. While spin-offs and enhancements like the Enhanced Edition kept the community engaged, many eagerly await the next chapter in Dmitry Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic world. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic), the studio initially teased a new Metro title in 2019, hinting at a release in "202X" before going quiet. It now appears that this long wait may soon be over.
