The widely popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has been a smashing hit on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC platforms. However, developer NetEase has firmly stated that the game won't be coming to the current Nintendo Switch, leaving many Nintendo fans disappointed. But there's hope on the horizon with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
During the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a Switch 2 release. The news is encouraging for Switch enthusiasts, as Wu indicated that a release on the new console is indeed a possibility. He explained, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device; they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, and though details about its capabilities are still sparse, it promises to be a more powerful and enhanced version of the original. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could make playing shooters like Marvel Rivals more akin to the PC experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature remains to be seen. The release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 is yet to be announced, but fans can look forward to more information during the Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2. In the meantime, Marvel Rivals is available on other platforms, and our 8/10 review praised it highly, stating that "it may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Excitingly, The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster of heroes on February 21.
