Legendary Entertainment's new Street Fighter movie has found its director: Kitao Sakurai, the creative force behind the comedic masterpiece, The Eric Andre Show. This news comes via The Hollywood Reporter.

Capcom's significant involvement is confirmed, with the film slated for release on March 20, 2026.

PlayThis marks another attempt to bring the iconic fighting game to the silver screen, following the infamous 1994 adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming-Na Wen, and the late Raul Julia. While critically panned at the time, it remains a cult classic for many.

Casting details are yet to be revealed, but fans can anticipate seeing their favorite Street Fighter characters in action.

Initially, Danny and Michael Philippou (directors of Talk to Me) were attached to the project but left last summer. Sakurai's selection suggests a potential shift towards a more absurdist, comedic tone, a direction that aligns well with the game's often over-the-top style. This is a welcome change for many fans.

In the meantime, players can enjoy the latest installment in the franchise, Street Fighter 6, which recently introduced Mai Shiranui as a playable character. Read IGN's full review for more details.
