Nintendo has unveiled its newest partnership with LEGO: a buildable Game Boy! Launching October 2025, this marks LEGO's second foray into recreating iconic Nintendo consoles, following the successful NES set.
While exciting news for fans of both brands, the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked a flurry of speculation regarding the Nintendo Switch 2. Many users humorously interpreted the Game Boy LEGO set as a cryptic reveal of the next console, highlighting the anticipation surrounding the Switch's successor.
Although Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the Switch 2, President Furukawa's May 7, 2024 statement promised an announcement regarding the successor within the current fiscal year (ending March). Fans will have to exercise patience.
Pricing details for the LEGO Game Boy are yet to be revealed, but further information is expected in the coming weeks or months.
Beyond the NES and the upcoming Game Boy, Nintendo and LEGO have previously teamed up to produce sets featuring beloved characters from franchises like Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda (TLZ).
Last May 2024 saw the release of a 2,500-piece LEGO set depicting the Great Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild. This impressive set, priced at $299.99 USD, also includes minifigures of Princess Zelda and the Master Sword.
Two months later, a Super Mario World-themed LEGO set featuring Mario riding Yoshi debuted. This unique set, priced at $129.99 USD, cleverly uses a crank mechanism to animate Yoshi's leg movement, mirroring the classic game's sprite animation.
