In the world of video games, it's not uncommon to see violence against animals, as seen in titles like Wolfenstein and Resident Evil 4. However, MachineGames is steering Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in a different direction.

"Indiana Jones is a dog person," stated Jens Andersson, Creative Director at MachineGames, in an interview with IGN. Even though Indiana Jones' adventures can be gritty and intense, the team has opted for a more family-friendly approach. While Indy can engage in combat with human adversaries, his encounters with dogs will not result in harm—a notable shift from MachineGames' past projects, such as Wolfenstein, where animal combat was part of the gameplay.

"It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways," Andersson explained. "How do we do that well? Well, these are the kind of things that we do. We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away."

Set to launch on December 9th for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a planned release in Spring 2025 for the PS5, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes place in 1937, fitting snugly between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The narrative kicks off with Indy on the trail of artifacts stolen from Marshall College, leading him on a thrilling journey from the Vatican to the Egyptian pyramids, and even to the submerged temples of Sukhothai.

In this adventure, Indy's iconic whip serves multiple purposes: it's a tool for traversal and a weapon to disarm and combat enemies as he navigates through expansive, open-world-inspired environments. Importantly, for those who cherish our canine friends, rest assured that no dogs will meet the end of Indy’s whip in this game.
